The new pioneering research documents the design and
evaluation of “3p-siRNAs,”
a new class of RNAi therapeutics comprised of small interfering RNAs (or
siRNA, the molecules that mediate RNAi) which are designed and
chemically modified to activate RIG-I (retinoic acid-induced gene I, a
cytoplasmic immunoreceptor which strongly induces type I interferon and
NK cell responses). The study showed that a 3p-siRNA specific for the
anti-apoptotic factor bcl-2 may be a highly effective anti-cancer agent
in several animal models. 3p-siRNAs that are designed toward other gene
targets may also have applications in infectious disease and as vaccine
adjuvants. “In our first collaborative paper with the
Hartmann lab in 2005, also published in Nature Medicine, we
defined certain structural features of siRNAs that were found to
stimulate immune responses, ensuring we can reliably avoid these
responses in designing our RNAi therapeutics,”
said Rachel Meyers, Ph.

Little proof of cellulite cream success
Newsday, NY
” According to the Nivea site, Good-bye Cellulite will make skin “noticeably firmer after two weeks” and “smoother after four weeks. ” The Biobodyslim site says its product “breaks the cellulite curse and rebuilds sexier, slimmer, toned, beautiful skin. The bottom line: The concept behind cellulite-reducing creams isn’t completely far-fetched, says Dr. Jenny Kim, an associate professor of medicine and dermatology at UCLA’s. Because caffeine and a few other compounds (L-carnitine or snail mucous not among them) have been shown to shrink fat cells in test tube studies, some creams “make sense, theoretically,” she says. “Theoretically” — there’s the rub.

“This poster reinforces previous data indicating that rEEG-guided
personalized medicine can significantly benefit dually-diagnosed
patients and corroborates the success of rEEG across a wide spectrum
of psychiatric conditions, including patients with disorders of
varying complexity. It is important to note that our colleague, Dr. Jim Greenblatt, recently completed a study of another dual-diagnosis
population of patients with eating disorders and co-occurring major
depression.
