It was estimated to be about 3 years old at death, probably female and a member of the Australopithecus afarensis species, the same as Lucy’s. "Her completeness, antiquity and age at death make this find unprecedented in the history of paleoanthropology," said Zeresenay Alemseged, the Ethiopian leader of the discovery team and a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. Two reports of the findings are being published in Nature. The National Geographic Society, a supporter of the research, will run a popular article on the fossil child in the November issue of its magazine. Scientists have discovered a remarkably complete skeleton of the 3-year-old female.

Opinion: An Apple for the enterprise?
Macworld - Sep 21, 2006
Read on, and decide for yourself whether you think Macs have earned — or will soon warrant — a spot on your enterprise short list. “Macs are so expensive. ” Apple behaves as though the natural forces that shape all other PC makers’ pricing don’t affect it. Although Apple almost never cuts prices, however, it does respond to the market. Mac models are upgraded to faster CPUs and buses, larger hard drives, and faster GPUs (graphics processing units) without Apple raising their prices. Instead of cutting prices on Xserve RAID arrays to make them more competitive, Apple raises capacity. At one point, Apple slipped a major controller board upgrade into new Xserve RAID shipments with no fanfare… military hauls Mac servers into the field and out to sea. Mac systems are widely deployed in academia, medicine, high-performance computing, science, film, and other fields where one server failure is cause for hauling a machine to the curb. “Apple controls the availability of systems, parts, upgrades, and service. ” This incontrovertible truth is one of the greatest points of contention between Apple and its customers. Apple maintains a viselike grip on distribution, pricing, and service, and with the spreading of Apple retail stores, its grip is tightening such that if it chose to, the company could shut down its reseller program entirely and continue to function without a hiccup. The merest whiff of that possibility sent resellers leaping to their fax machines and lawyers.
History Along the Route of Intrepid Explorers
Washington Post - Sep 21, 2006
She had a young baby, and the sight of a woman and child calmed many of the Native Americans along the route. Such a sight represented a peaceful mission. Clark’s slave York was considered by the Indians to be “good medicine. ” Both Sacagawea, an Indian and a woman, and York, a slave, were allowed to vote for the location of the second winter camp. Many of the Native Americans along my trip were insightful in their reaction to the original journey. One, a Chippewa in Montana, called Lewis and Clark “our first American tourists. ” And it was Roberta Connor, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla in Oregon, who when asked about Lewis taking his own life in l809, speculated that “he never got over the trip… So there is much to be learned from such a “mid-life crisis,” as some have called my journey. I end with a quote by Thomas P. Slaughter from his book “Exploring Lewis and Clark”:”As an opening to our imaginations, as facilitators of our connections to the past, nature, God, and the Universe, Lewis and Clark continue to serve us, perhaps better than they serve themselves. that is why we will keep repeating their journey over and over again. “I encourage you to get out West and see some or all of their route and read any of the many books now in print about this amazing story.

And one Peterborough mother is using her reflexology skills to help her disabled daughter. In the run-up to World Reflexology Week, features writer Maria Thompson found out more. IT’S a natural instinct to want to help your child overcome pain and discomfort. For Karen McIlravie, who qualified as a reflexologist two years before her daughter had major spinal surgery, it was second nature. Karen, a former nurse, completed a course in “gentle touch reflexology” and now helps people from all walks of life. But it was her daughter who would be first to benefit from mum’s new skill. She said: “My first patients were my family.
